The principal of the school in HA. Baarah, Amjad Hussain handed in his resignation and left the island on Wednesday, two days after his motorbike was torched.

The incident in question had taken place on Monday night. Amjad’s motorbike had been parked at his residence when it was torched. Baarah Council previously told Sun that the gates to the residence had been locked, and the arsonist is therefore believed to have climbed over the wall to torch the motorbike.

Baarah councilor Ali Shameem confirmed to Sun that Amjad, originally from N. Velidhoo, left the island on Wednesday evening, in response to the incident.

Shameem said that police continue to operate in Baarah to investigate the incident.

He said the motive behind the arson attack remains unclear.

Shameem said that Amjad and his family were traumatized by the incident.

Baarah Council’s president Sofaath Mohamed told Sun that Amjad left Baarah with his wife and three children after tendering his resignation, and intends to transfer to another school.

“He left after resigning. I have been informed that he has transferred to a school in Sh. Atoll,” he said.

Amjab was not immediately available for comment regarding the incident, while the Baarah School declined to comment.
