Man accused of groping female pedestrian released

The suspect arrested for groping a woman walking on a street in Male’ City has been released from police custody. 

The suspect, identified as a 20-year-old Maldivian man, was arrested on Friday, November 19. 

A police spokesperson told Sun that a case involving the sexual harassment of a female pedestrian in Male’ was reported to the police on Friday morning. 

The victim has shared her experience on social media. 

She said that she was walking to her office when the suspect groped her.  

She said that she chased the suspect, and received help from a bystander to help catch him. 

A police spokesperson said the suspect was released from custody on Saturday, November 20. 

“He was released due to lack of sufficient evidence in the case,” said the spokesperson. 

However, the case remains under investigation.
