Addu City Mayor calls on Pakistan High Commissioner to the Maldives

Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar has called on High Commission of Pakistan to Maldives Vice Admiral (Retired) Ather Mukhtar.

During this call, Mayor Ali Nizar was accompanied by other Councilors of Addu City Council whereas High Commissioner Mukhtar was accompanied by Deputy High Commissioner Zulqurnain Ahmad.

High Commissioner Mukhtar thanked Mayor Nizar for visiting the High Commission and providing an opportunity to discuss and exchange views on matters of mutual interest. Recalling his visit to Addu City in August – High Commissioner Mukhtar also thanked the Mayor and his team for the hospitality rendered during the visit.

He also stressed that Maldives is the second home of Pakistanis, as is Pakistan the second home of Maldivians.

High Commissioner Mukhtar also briefed the delegates from Addu City regarding the High Commission’s collaborations with the Government of Maldives to further enhance existing Maldives-Pakistan ties in various areas. On this note, he added that the areas of education, health, sports, social sectors and capacity building has been added focus on for the benefit of the Maldivian people.

Deputy High Commissioner Zulqurnain also commended the efforts by Councilors to address the issues and needs of the people in their respective islands.

During this call, High Commissioner Muktar also presented badminton equipment to Mayor Nizar as a gift for Addu City people from Pakistanis. The items given as gifts includes badminton rackets, net, feather shuttlecock, replacement grips and t-shirts.

Mayor Nizar thanked the High Commissioner for the gifts. Noting the close ties Maldives and Pakistan have maintained over the years, Mayor Nizar stressed that there was a need to enhance people-to-people connections.
