Thieves break into K. Atoll Council office, steal over MVR 80,000

Thieves broke into the K. Atoll Council office located in K. Thulusdhoo on early Sunday, stealing a large amount of cash from the safe. 

Police said the theft was reported to the authorities at 08:15 am this Sunday. 

K. Atoll Council’s president Aslam Moosa told Sun the theft took place in the pre-dawn hours of Sunday. 

Aslam said that he has been informed the safe had between MVR 80,000 and MVR 100,000 in cash. 

Aslam said that though he does not know much detail regarding how the theft took place at this point, the area where the office is located has CCTV cameras. 

He said that the police have sent a forensic team to Thulusdhoo to invetsigate the case. 

Police have yet to confirm an arrest in connection to the case.
