Sh. Feydhoo Council believes the fire that broke out at the island’s former school building on Tuesday was an arson attack.

Feydhoo Council president Ahmed Raisam told Sun on Wednesday afternoon that the building does not have electricity or any flammable material.

Raisam said that he believes there is no way a fire could have broken out in the building unless it was deliberately set.

“We suspect that because there’s no way a fire could have broken out there unless it was deliberately set,” he said.

Raisam said that he does not know who could have set the fire, and that the case is under investigation by the police.

He added that the building had been a target for two separate incidents of arson in the past.

The fire was reported to MNDF’s Kulhudhuffushi Fire Station at 10:47 pm last Tuesday, and was put out by firefighters at 00:39 am on Wednesday.

The fire resulted in extensive damage to three classrooms.
