Parliament is scheduled to reopen for the third session of the year on August 16.

Parliament’s Media and Communications Director Hassan Ziyau told Sun that the Parliament will be holding in-person sittings during the third session.

“The sittings, as of now, are scheduled to be held on the floor. But this may change when the time comes, depending on the situation,” he said.

Parliament concluded its second session of the year and went to recess on July 13.

Parliament’s General Purposes Committee decided with a unanimous vote to change the schedule of the second and third session so recess falls during the school holidays.

With the decision, the second session will hereafter be held from May 16 to July 31.

Parliamentary group leader of ruling MDP, Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim recently told Sun the top priority of the Parliament once it reopens for the third session will be to finalize crucial decisions to combat violent extremism.
