Widespread rain expected to continue over Maldives for next 48 hours

Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts heavy rain and thunderstorms will affect regions across Maldives over the next 48 hours.

Maldives Meteorological Service has issued yellow alert for torrential rain and thunderstorms for regions between Lh. Atoll and M. Atoll from noon to 04:00 pm this Tuesday.

The service forecasts heavy rain will affect northern and central Maldives this Tuesday, and central Maldives on Wednesday.

Winds are expected to be west/northwesterly, at 10 – 20 miles per hour in central and southern atolls, variable becoming north/northeasterly at 3 – 13 miles per hour in northern atolls. Winds may gust 40 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be moderate becoming rough during showers in central and southern atolls, slight becoming moderate during showers in northern atolls.

Waves are expected to reach heights of 3 – 6 feet.

Maldives Meteorological Service expects the weather to clear up come Thursday.
