One injured in sea ambulance collision in intensive care

One of the people injured in a collision between a speedboat and sea ambulance on early Tuesday is being treated at intensive care.

The collision took place off the coast of the resort island Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, between a sea ambulance travelling from M. Muli to Male’ City carrying eight people and a speedboat – Dream – which departed from Male’ City carrying two people. The speedboat Dream is a passenger boat which travels between Male’ City and F. Feeali.

The collision was reported to Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Coastguard at approximately 01:00 am on Tuesday.

The accident left two people on the sea ambulance and one person on the speedboat injured.

All three were taken to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ City.

A spokesperson from IGMH told Sun on Tuesday afternoon that one of the people injured – a 43-year-old male – sustained serious injuries and is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.

The other two were treated at the Emergency Room, and did not sustain serious injuries, said the spokesperson.

The collision took place as the sea ambulance was transferring a patient to Male’ City. The patient was not injured in the collision.
