The High Court of the Maldives has sentenced a man to three years in prison for indecent exposure towards a child.

The appeal court overruled the Magistrate Court of Maradhoo-Feydhoo in Addu City in the case.

Mohamed Ajnaaz from Rabi’eemanzil from G. Dh. Nadella was sentenced after being found guilty of indecent exposure towards a child on October 19 2016. The victim in the case is reportedly just 12 years old.

Ajnaaz had denied the charges leading the Magistrate Court Maradhoo-Feydhoo to rule that there was not enough evidence to warrant a conviction.

When the case was appealed to the High Court, the court found Ajnaaz guilty. The High Court verdict read that Ajnaaz had been found guilty of disobedience, sexual abuse, and child abuse which had led to a two-year house arrest.

A prior verdict where Ajnaaz was banished to another island for carrying out sexual activity in public in Nadella was also cited by the High Court in its verdict.

Ajnaaz was sentenced to three years in prison, by the bench of justices of the High Court.
