Tourism Ministry has stated that the highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives in 2020 were from Italy.
Statistics published by the ministry today show that the Maldives had recorded 45,169 tourists from Italy, amounting up to 11 percent of the total number of tourist arrivals so far in 2020.
The figure is inclusive of the tourist arrivals after the Maldives reopened its borders on July 15.
The Maldives also saw 35,000 tourist arrivals from India, amounting up to 9 percent of the total arrival figure. The third-highest number of tourist arrivals were from China, which is 33,939 tourists, which is around 8.7 percent of all tourist arrivals.

The Maldives, in total, recorded 402,089 tourists so far in 2020 which is a reduction of 65.1 percent when compared with 2019.
The pandemic had halted travel all across the globe in the early months of 2020, and countries are just beginning to reopen borders after enforcing strict lockdowns to curb the spread of the virus.
Currently, there are 65 resorts operating in the Maldives after the country reopened. 76 safaris six hotels as well as 17 guesthouses are also operational currently.
