Monitoring mechanisms placed on Naifaru

The island of Lh. Naifaru has been placed under monitoring mechanisms after an expatriate worker on the island tested positive for COVID-19.

A notice sent by the Director-General of Public Health to the Naifaru Council states that the island is under monitoring mechanisms, which means that no one is allowed to leave or arrive on the island for the time being. During this time, authorities will be conducting contact tracing on the island. 

The expatriate who tested positive works on a boat that travels between Male’ City and Naifaru.

Naifaru Council member Vidhaadh Abdulla said to Sun that the worker was not in home-quarantine but was later placed in quarantine after exhibiting symptoms of the virus.

“It has been three days since the worker was placed in home-quarantine. Samples collected afterward tested positive.” Said Vidhaadh.

The boat is currently in Male’ City.

Previous instances of individuals working boats testing positive have been reported. sometimes leading to several islands being placed under monitoring mechanisms.
