Fines of tourist establishments such as resorts, guesthouses, and hotels have been reduced by the government.
The Tourism Ministry announced amendments to the regulations regarding such establishments which will see the reduction of fines.
The amendments state that any unpaid overdue payments to be made to the government will be charged with a fine of 0.0493 percent of the unpaid payment.
Previously, a fine of 0.5 percent was charged for such overdue payments.
The government has been introducing measures with the purpose of regaining the economic footing of the country lost due to COVID-19. Tourist establishment fees have also seen massive reduction and deferrals of payments till June 2021 have also been issued. Deferrals of power and water bills of such establishments have also been made by the government.
Maldives reopened its borders on July 1 after a four-month-long lockdown due to COVID-19. The Maldives has received a total of 1,769 tourists since then.
