The Australian government has donated 12,000 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) sets to Maldives.

The donation was presented by Australian High Commissioner to Maldives David Holly and Australian Defense Advisor Group Captain Sean Unwin, to the Maldivian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Omar Abdul Razzaq and Defense Advisor to the High Commission of Maldives in Sri Lanka Lieutenant Colonel Ismail Naseer on Tuesday.

The donation was made by the Australian Department Defense to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), to ensure the protection of military personnel working on the frontlines of the battle to curb the spread of the coronavirus outbreak in Maldives.

The PPEs donated by Australia are worth USD 120,000. They consist of 12,000 high quality coveralls and 200,000 gloves, manufactured in Sri Lanka by Australian company Ansell.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, High Commissioner Holly said that Australia was pleased to make the donation.

“Australia expresses solidarity with Maldives as we both face the impacts of the global COVID-19 crisis together. As a longstanding friend, Australia is pleased to help Maldives counter COVID-19 by providing this equipment to project those on the frontlines,” he said.

Meanwhile, High Commissioner Omar expressed appreciation for the generous donation, and thanked Australia for the continued cooperation and friendly relations with Maldives at all times.
