Third virus related death recorded in the Maldives

A third individual has passed away after being infected with COVID-19 in the Maldives.

Sun has confirmed the patient who passed away is an 80-year old patient who was receiving treatment at the DH11 facility of Dharumavantha Hospital. The individual was admitted at the facility on April 21 and was receiving treatment for the virus in intensive care. The patient was moved to the ICU unit and connected with a ventilator on April 30

The case number of the individual that passed away is Case 81 and belonged to the HMF cluster of cases. 

The other two patients to pass away from the virus in the Maldives are an 83-year old woman and a Bangladeshi national who was working in the Maldives.

The total figure of confirmed cases in the country currently stands at 648. The majority of the cases have been identified in Male' City. The populous capital confirmed a community case of the virus on April 15. Since then, the whole city and the surrounding areas are in full lockdown and curfew. 

Most virus cases confirmed in the Maldives have come from foreign nationals, mostly migrant workers.
