Minister: Govt. working to bring back local health professionals abroad

Maldivian Health Minister Abdulla Ameen has stated that the government was working on bringing back local health professionals stranded abroad amid the Covid-19 pandemic virus situation faced by the world.

In a press conference last night, Minister Ameen stated that there were a number of local health professionals abroad who wished to return and around 70 such individuals have so far been brought back to the country.

“They are people abroad for education and higher education purposes. Some have completed their quarantine periods. All of these individuals will come out to service. This is something that we will be proud of and something that we will accept.” said the Minister.

The Minister noted that internal restrictions and travel restrictions of the countries where these individuals were in posed difficulties, which the government was addressing.

He also noted that the assistance of these individuals would be needed very much if the virus was to spread in the Maldives and guaranteed that the government would work to bring them back in such a situation.

Many Maldivians are studying medical sciences abroad in countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, and China.
