Health Minister Abdulla Ameen has stated that people with symptoms of the Covid-19 virus were not fully honest and could pose a danger to the entire nation.

In a press conference held last night, the Minister appealed to those with even the slightest symptoms of the virus to report themselves and not to hide information.

“When people depart from resorts after 14 days, and back to the community, we sincerely request those with symptoms of the virus not to hide the fact. We have noticed that some people refrained from providing the information when we collected as the 14-day period neared an end or ended.” said the Minister.

Minister Ameen pleaded with resort employees to not to do so even if they wished to depart from the island as soon as possible and noted that the measures taken by the government were for the safety of all Maldivians.

“If the information regarding symptoms from an individual is hidden because employees of the resort may have to stay for a period longer than 14-days, that action may result in the whole country being placed in grave danger.” said the Minister.

He noted that it was extremely difficult to say that the country was virus-free and that the government requested everyone to obey the measures and instructions that are always taken in light of the situation.

The Maldives has so far confirmed 19 cases of the virus. 13 have since made full recoveries.
