Maldives using Hydroxychloroquine to treat severe cases of Covid-19

IGMH doctor Ali Latheef has said that an anti-malarial drug was being used in the Maldives to treat some cases of the Covid-19.   

The head of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) formed by the government to combat the pandemic virus in the Maldives, Dr. Latheef said that the drug was used in cases where a patient’s condition deteriorated.

The drug also known as Hydroxychloroquine is also being used in some other countries to treat for the virus. India has recently banned the export of the drug, which was later allowed to be exported to the USA where Covid-19 cases are rising.

China has also used traditional medications to treat some cases and is now working to assist other countries in combatting the disease.

Dr. Latheef said that the Maldives was not thinking about using Chinese medications.

The Maldives has so far confirmed 19 cases of the virus and reported zero causalities. 13 individuals have also made full recoveries since being infected with the virus.
