The government of Maldives has announced that everyone that returned from the United Kingdom after March 14 and everyone in contact with the returnees are to be tested for the Covid-19 virus as well.
In a news conference last night, government spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez stated that those who returned from the UK between March 14-19 and those who came into contact with the returnees are to be tested for the virus. The move comes after three locals who returned from the UK tested positive for the virus.
Everyone placed in quarantine facilities across the country are also to be tested for the virus. The government had imposed a mandatory quarantine on all those returning to the country since March 21.
The Maldives currently has 866 people placed in quarantine as a precautionary measure against the virus. Most of them are people who returned from abroad.
The Maldives has confirmed 18 cases of the Covid-19. 13 of these individuals have made full recoveries. The 13 individuals that recovered are all foreigners from resorts and safaris in the country. Currently, only three locals remain positive and under treatment for the virus in the Maldives.
