A foreign doctor in the Maldives has been quarantined after exhibiting symptoms of the Covid-19 virus.
Government spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez stated to “Sun” that the doctor has been quarantined in the facility in Royal Island Resort.
Patients positive for the virus are treated in a special area of the IGMH’s Dharumavantha hospital complex. Health officials treating the patients are always equipped with the necessary gear to protect themselves from the virus.
“We isolate and test them if they exhibit even a minor symptom of the virus,” said Mabrouq.
The Maldives currently has 866 people placed in quarantine as a precautionary measure against the virus. Most of them are people who returned from abroad.
The Maldives has confirmed 18 cases of the Covid-19. 13 of these individuals have made full recoveries. The 13 individuals that recovered are all foreigners from resorts and safaris in the country. Currently, only three locals remain positive and under treatment for the virus in the Maldives.
