Fracas erupts between Police and group of men in Baarah

Additional police officers from the nearby island of H.A. Dhidhdhoo were required to resolve an issue between a group of youths and a police officer in the northern island of H.A Baarah last night.

Police stated that a group of people from the island demanded a police officer to leave the island. The group of people was not happy with how the officer had spoken to them before they demanded the officer’s departure, according to Police.

A large group of people then gathered near the police station on the island, and additional officers from Dhidhdhoo arrived in Baarah around 23:50 last night. The team officers and the Baarah council president then spoke with the group, appealing to them to leave the area.

After the group failed to provide an adequate reason, they were dispersed around 1:35 after being advised, police stated.

Rumors have been circulating on social media that the issue came after a police officer took unwanted nude photographs of a girl using a drone. Police stated that a complaint regarding such a case was yet to be received.
