Police: Death in Olhuveli due to natural causes, unrelated to COVID-19

Maldives Police Service, on Tuesday, that the person found deceased in Olhuveli Beach & Spa on Monday was believed to have died from natural causes, and was not related to the new coronavirus.

The person found deceased in Olhuveli has been identified as a 53-year-old Sri Lankan national employed by the resort.

The worker was found deceased in his room.

A police spokesperson said on Tuesday that the preliminary investigation showed the worker had a pre-existing health condition, and that no external injuries had been found on the body.

The spokesperson also said that the death was “not considered connected to COVID-19”.

While the police believe the worker to have died of natural causes, the agency is set to conduct a standard death investigation to complete procedural matters on reported sudden death cases.
