Tourist excursions in the country have been halted until further notice by the relevant authorities in a bid to contain the Covid-19 virus.
The government declared a public health emergency on March 12 due to confirmed cases of the virus. Authorities are taking no chances in ensuring that the virus does not spread to densely populated areas in the country and has managed to keep the number of positive cases at 13 with stringent measures.
The Director-General of Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru had ordered to halt all tourist excursions from safaris, guesthouses, and resorts for a period of ten days then.
The period was extended in an announcement made tonight and stated that the measure will remain in place until further notice.
The Director-General of Health has also ordered to halt the arrival of tourists to guesthouses in inhabited islands of the country and also halted the transfer of tourists between islands. Mandatory quarantine measures have also been initiated for arrivals except for tourists into the country.
The Director-General tonight, requested vigilance from the public and stated the importance of the measures to ensure the safety of the public in the future.
While 13 cases of the virus have been confirmed in the Maldives, three have since made full recoveries.
