MWSC celebrates World Water Day with awareness message of Covid-19

Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has begun a national initiative on World Water Day to create awareness among the public regarding good hygiene and cleanliness in the midst of the situation with the Covid-19.

The company will be celebrating the occasion via social media.

“We will be sharing posts on how to reduce water waste and expenses as well as how to use water to maintain cleanliness in the upcoming days on social media platforms. Special sticker packages will also be introduced to platforms such as Telegram, Viber applications very soon.” Said a company official.

MWSC also highlighted on how to correctly wash hands during a time when health authorities and professionals were advocating for frequent hand washing.

• Washing your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds.
• Washing the back of the hands, between the fingers and under the nails with soap.
• Turning the tap off to conserve water when washing hands.
• Drying your hands with tissue or cloth after washing.

In case of no access to water, applying sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol to your hands and thoroughly rubbing them.

The company also noted the important times for washing hands such as after sneezing or coughing as well as wiping your nose.

Hands must also be washed after touching things such as money or returning from outdoors or assisting a sick person. It was also imperative for people to remain indoors as the authorities were advising, according to MWSC.

People should also wash hands after attending garbage, or touching pets, or changing diapers of babies and MWSC noted the importance of limiting the waste of water. The company noted that water was a resource that some people in the world did not have access to.

MWSC also assured that the water supplied by the company was of high standards and was tested in laboratories daily.

The company called on the public to adhere to the instructions of the public at this delicate time and stated that it was an individual responsibility of each and everyone to do so.

MWSC has previously announced that it will not be charging for one ton of water supply from every household from March 12-20, due to the situation with Covid-19.
