A male employee of a resort who had violated the orders of the Director General of Health has been detained for 15 days.

The employee had gone to the resort in H.A atoll, violating the restrictive measures placed on traveling to resorts. The government had announced a public health emergency on March 12, following the situation with the Covid-19 virus in the country.

The order by the Director General of Health was issued on March 18 and effectively prohibited travels between resorts and other locations across the country. Only tourists and employees in charge of arranging departures for tourists are allowed to disembark from the resort, after this order.

The employee of the resort had arrived at the resort from an inhabited island of the atoll last Friday. The 32-year old was shortly arrested by police. The employee was later ordered to be detained by the magistrate court in H.A Filladhoo. Police are further investigating the matter.
