Fourth person quarantined from resort in lockdown

A fourth person has been placed in quarantine after exhibiting symptoms of the Covid-19 disease in Summer Island Resort.

Health Minister Abdulla Ameen confirmed the news at a press conference last night and stated that the person has been placed in isolation.

It was announced by the authorities yesterday morning that two French tourists and a doctor from the resort were placed in isolation after exhibiting symptoms of the disease. The three were moved to the quarantine facility in Farukolhufushi, Hulhumale’.

Three other employees of the resort have also been isolated and confined to their rooms as a precautionary measure.

The island is in lockdown as the authorities wait for the results of the tests.

Accommodation for tourists that made bookings at the resort has been arranged in other resorts following the unfortunate turn of events, according to the resort.

The Maldives confirmed its first two cases of the virus last night. Two employees of Kuredu Island Resort were tested positive for the disease. The orange alert level has been initiated for the island which is in a status of lockdown currently.
