President opens Izzudheen School, a new step for education in the country

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated Izzudheen School in Male’ city, the newest school to be opened in the country. Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali also joined the President in the opening ceremony of the school.

The school was opened in a special ceremony in the morning. The school was built in the location of the former Male’ English School and Faculty of Law and Islamic Studies of the Maldives National University.

The school is to be operated in a single session and is dedicated to Al Sultan Al Ghaazee Hassan Izzudheen Dhonbandaarain, who was the first sultan of the Huraa dynasty.

25 students per classroom

The school will be enrolled by 209 students in its first year and will teach from grades 1-6. Each classroom will not have more than 25 students.

President Solih, speaking at the ceremony stated that schools would help build educated children with good demeanors. Schools also help in developing the talents and skills of students, said the President.

“To pave the way for this, the students of this school are distributed so that each class will not have more than 25 students. This is the first time such an arrangement is made in a government school. The positive changes of this arrangement will be seen from the students, god willing.” said President Solih. The president also stated that in addition to students, teachers will also benefit from this change.

The school’s arrangements are made so that it produces students who would work for the betterment and development of themselves, the community and their country who are aware of the advanced life of the 21st century, said the President.

“The development we define is a holistic system. The development comes from an inventive mindset of human beings. We are working on developing each and every Maldivian child that has such a mindset.” said the President.

The President noted that the newly opened school has begun a new step in the government’s work to change all the schools in the country to a single session. Izzudheen School is the first in the country to start teaching in a single session.

“When this system is implemented, the parents would attend work after taking their child to school at 7:40 in the morning. The school day for the student would begin with morning breakfast, and after the assembly, studies will commence. When the afternoon prayer time is called, students will pray at school and have lunch at school. The parents would go back home from work with their children from school.” said the President in explaining how the system would work.

The President further praised the system and stated that when the child finishes school in the afternoon, all the extracurricular activities and class would also be finished. This means that neither the student nor the parent would have to attend the school after it ends.
