President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met and held discussions with the Prime Minister of India during the trip to take part in the United Nations general assembly in New York, USA.
The President met with Prime Minister Modi and stated that the Maldives would always prioritize strengthening ties with India and other regional countries and the recently held Indian Ocean Conference in the Maldives was a clear display of the good relations the Maldives has with other countries in the region.
Maldivians were also experiencing the benefits of the trade and development projects with India, said the President, who also noted the role played by India in the "Climate Action Summit" and climate change on an international scale.
A tweet by the President after the meeting stated that important discussions were carried out with Prime Minister Modi and described the Prime Minister as a "Close Friend".
The Indian Prime Minister also stated that relations between the two regional neighbors had become even better after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih came to power.
Maldives was the first country to be visited by Prime Minister Modi after he was elected to a second term and the PM also visited the swearing-in ceremony of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in November. The President has also visited India on an official trip.
India has recently increased its assistance to the Maldives and the two countries have also signed several MoU'sas of late.
