SriLankan Airlines introduces direct flights between Japan and Maldives

SriLankan Airlines has commenced direct flights between Maldives and Japanese capital Tokyo.

The first direct flight from Narita International Airport in Tokyo to the Velana International Airport, UL461 landed on Thursday, July 25.

SriLankan Airlines reports it will have four weekly direct flight operations between Maldives and Tokyo.

Japan is on the top ten list of tourist arrivals to Maldives. Total 22,642 Japanese tourists are recorded to have visited Maldives in the first two quarters of 2019.

The introduction of direct flight operations between Maldives and Japan is expected to boost Japanese tourist arrivals, which is currently at a 17.9 percent growth rate.
