Three ministers did not attend for committee meetings even after the notice summon of 14 days lapsed, according to Speaker of parliament and former president Mr. Mohamed Nasheed.

During Wednesday’s parliamentary session Mr. Nasheed stated that Home Minister Imran Abdulla, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Transport Minister Aishath Nahula had failed to attend committee meetings even after their notices lapsed.

It was DRP’s leader and Kaashidhoo MP Jabir who had proposed to question the three ministers. Speaker Nasheed said that according to parliamentary regulations the ministers were given 14 days to attend, however, none of the ministers attended during the notice period and that it had now lapsed. He also said that the next step was holding discussions between the three ministers and the members of the committee to set a date that would be flexible for the ministers to attend.

“I believe that these ministers will attend the parliament,” said Speaker Nasheed.

Minster Imran will be questioned regarding the chaos that ensued following President Nasheed’s resignation in 2013 and the prevention measures that need to be taken to stop similar acts in the future. Minister Shahid will be questioned regarding renewing the diplomatic ties between Maldives and Qatar and Minister Nahula will be questioned regarding the parking issues that are faced in the country and why parking tickets were being issued without introducing proper parking arrangements.
