Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with the Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth as part of his ongoing official visit to Mauritius last Saturday.
At the meeting, the two leaders discussed mutual concerns and emphasized the necessity of increasing cooperation in all fields of mutual interest - especially on climate change and maritime issues.
President Solih also thanked PM Jugnauth for the hospitality extended to himself and the Maldivian delegation by the Mauritian government during his visit.
He also expressed his pleasure at the invitation extended to him by the Mauritian government to attend the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) currently underway in the country.
At the meeting, the two leaders noted that one of the underlying goals of the IOIG was to improve relations between Indian Ocean island nations by creating an atmosphere of good-natured and friendly sporting competition.
They also noted the importance of island nations being mindful of the mutual challenges and aspiring to speak with a collective voice.
They ended the meeting by wishing each other well and expressing optimism that the bilateral relations between Maldives and Mauritius will continue to prosper.
President Solih’s meeting with the Mauritian PM was held immediately after his meeting with the Acting President of Mauritius Paramasivum Pillay Barlen Vyapoory.
