Gender initiates probe after teen beaten, thrown out of home

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has initiated an investigation into the case of the teenage boy who was beaten and thrown out of his home last Monday.

The incident took place at an island in Southern Maldives.

Video of the boy lying under the shade of a tree has gone viral over the social media, and has led to appeals by members of the general public for an investigation into the incident by Maldives Police Service and Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services.

A spokesperson from Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services reported to ‘Sun’ this Tuesday that the case is under investigation by the office.

Reports of crimes involving child victims has recently been on the rise.

The Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services intervened to take a child who was sold for MVR 30,000 into State custody last Monday.
