Man arrested from Central Maldives for sexual abuse of 8-year-old girl

A suspect has been arrested from Central Maldives for sexual abuse of a young girl.

Maldives Police Service says the case was submitted to the agency at approximately 10 pm on May 25.

The victim was identified as an eight-year-old girl from Central Maldives.

The suspect in the case, identified as a 58-year-old Maldivian male, was arrested under court order this Thursday.

The latest child sexual abuse case comes after Ministry of Gender confirmed it is investigating a similar case from A. A. Atoll last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the 19-year-old male who was arrested from Hulhumale’ for sexually assaulting two prepubescent boys was recently released from police custody by the court citing a procedural issue.
