President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, this Wednesday morning, departed to Saudi Arabia on an official visit to attend the 14th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The 14th summit of OIC is scheduled to begin at Mecca, Saudi Arabia on May 31.
The summit will gather heads of states and governments of Muslim-majority countries for discussions regarding the most pressing issues facing the Islamic community. Topics which will be discussed includes Islamophobia, regional peace in the Middle East, and other issues facing the global Islamic community.
OIC was established in 1969 and aspires to speak as the collective voice of the Islamic Ummah. It currently comprises of 57 member states representing over a billion people.
Summits are held every three years in accordance with the OIC charter.
President’s Office reports that the Maldivian delegation, at the sidelines of the summit, will engage with discussions with Saudi officials regarding bilateral relations and development cooperation.
The President is also scheduled to perform the Umrah pilgrimage before returning to Maldives.
