Surgeries scheduled at the main State hospital, Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) last Saturday were postponed following an issue with the air conditioning system at one of the hospital’s operation theaters.

IGMH has four operation theaters; one is currently shut down for repairs, and a number of surgeries scheduled at one of the three remaining operation theaters were postponed after water began dripping down from the theater’s air conditioning system.

Many of the patients who had their surgeries postponed had protested against the inconvenience.

Information officer at IGMH, Mohamed Mufeed reported to ‘Sun’ that officials at the hospital noticed the issue with the air conditioning system on Saturday morning, and managed to fix it by 3 pm.

“Surgeries at the other two operation theaters were carried out without disruption despite the issue in the one theater. Approximately nine surgeries were held today,” said Mufeed.

IGMH had already been under fire over the issue with the air conditioning units at the hospital’s emergency room.

The hospital reported to ‘Sun’ in an earlier interview that it will receive the equipment it needs to fix the issue in early May.
