MMA plans array of activities to mark Global Money Week

Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced plans to hold an array of activities targeting children and the youth to mark the Global Money Week this year.

Global Money Week, an initiative by the Children and Youth Finance International (CYFI) is an annual financial awareness campaign designed to inspire children and youth across the globe to learn about money matters, livelihoods and entrepreneurship.

The campaign was launched in 2012 and is held in March.

The commencement of the activities to mark Global Money Week was announced by Governor of MMA, Ahmed Naseer in a video message this Wednesday.

In his message, Naseer stressed children were the future leaders and policy makers of the nation, and that that it was therefore crucial that children are taught concepts of income, expenditure, business and economy at an early age.

“With this purpose, we will be widely celebrating the global campaign of Global Money Week in the Maldives,” announced Naseer.

He also appealed for as many children and youth of Maldives as possible to participate in the activities.

“We are planning to hold the Global Money Week activities successfully in a way which will allow maximum participation from the public, especially targeting involvement of schools and youth. Financial services are a basic right which should be available to everyone. That is how it should be. Therefore, I call for all children and youth to participate in these activities,” said Naseer.

Activities to mark Global Money Week in Maldives will be held by MMA in collaboration with Ministry of Education, financial institutions and businesses operating in Maldives.

Some of the activities planned include drawing contests, video skits and forum for young entrepreneurs.
