Relations between Maldives and India were restored and strengthened within just a short period of time following Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s assumption to power, says Vice President Faisal Naseem.

Speaking during the ceremony held at Dharubaaruge last Saturday night to mark India’s Republic Day, Faisal highlighted the relations between Maldives and India.

‘I note with pleasure, the strengthening of the ties between our two nations, with visits by the heads of the two nations, within the short period of time since our administration came into power,” said Faisal.

Faisal said he had been honored with the presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his, and Solih’s inauguration on November 17, 2018.

He stressed the bond between the two countries went far beyond bilateral ties, and was forged through years of acquaintance, shared traditions and aspirations.

Speaking as a member of the Special Parliament which compiled the new Constitution of Maldives, Faisal said Maldives and India were similar in respect to the fact that the constitutions of both nations shared the same underlying spirit and intent; to provide citizens with the rights and freedoms of a democratic society, and to the values that bind the social fabric of the two nations.

He also reaffirmed the Maldivian administration’s commitment to working together with the Indian administration for mutual benefit and prosperity.
