Therapy for the disabled now free

Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services has launched a program to provide free therapeutic services for persons with disabilities.

Free therapeutic services for the disabled is one of the current administration’s First 100-Day Goals.

The program was launched by Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services, Shidhatha Shareef at a function held at the auditorium of Maldives National University (MNU) this Thursday morning.

Speaking during the function, Shidhatha noted the huge financial burden on persons with disabilities and their families to bear the cost of essential therapeutic services.

She said that the health and rights of people with disabilities and special needs was of foremost importance to the administration, despite the huge burden the State would need to bear in order to provide such services free of charge.

During the function, persons with disabilities, families, health facilities which provide therapeutic services to persons with disabilities and NGO’s took part in an information session where they exchanged ideas and recommendations.

Therapeutic services for the disabled are now available via the Aasandha healh insurance scheme.

The services will be available to persons with disabilities registered with the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).
