A guesthouse symposium, open to all guesthouse businesses operating in Maldives, will be held on December 29, says Minister of Tourism.

Speaking during a press conference at A. A. Rasdhoo last Friday, Minister Ali Waheed announced the guesthouse symposium will be held at Dharubaaruge on December 29.

He invited all guesthouses operating in Maldives to join the event.

“The purpose of this symposium is to identify issues facing local tourism or the local guesthouse business, and through exchange of ideas and discussion, find a collective and effective solution to the issues,” said Ali Waheed.

Ali Waheed expressed confidence in support from the local guesthouse industry to the symposium.

“During this symposium, we will listen to the opinion of guesthouse businesses on branding and produce papers on fulfilling one of this administration’s biggest objectives – to market places or islands in Maldives as destinations. We will identify room for improvement to regulations with the counsel of the guesthouse sector. And we will identify the benefits of guesthouse business to local communities and evaluate how the benefits can be increased,” said Ali Waheed.

The minister said local guesthouse operators have the opportunity to produce and present their own papers to the government during the symposium.

Ali Waheed said the one-day symposium will be the biggest such guesthouse sector event to be held in Maldives.
