20 evacuees from 2 residences under care of Disaster Management Center

20 people evacuated from two residences affected by flooding in Male’ City last Wednesday remain under State care, reports Disaster Management Center.

Project Director at Disaster Management Center, Hisaan Hassan reports the center assisted 117 residences affected by flooding.

“Of them, 20 people from two of the residences are under our care at the Beehive Hotel,” said Hisaan.

Hisaan said the center did assessments on 99 residences which suffered various damages due to flooding; solved electricity issues which affected 168 residences in collaboration with State Electric Company (STELCO); and managed to control the flooding inside residences and alleyways in collaboration with Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) at approximately 1:45 am this Thursday.

Hisaan said the flooding in the roads were controlled by MNDF at 12:49 am with Thursday.

“And sacks of sand were placed at the entrances of 38 residences to prevent the flood water from getting in,” added Hisaan.

Disaster Management Center concluded its flood relief efforts at 2:44 am this Thursday.

A record 223.5 milliliters of rain water fell on Male’ City om Wednesday, reports the Maldives Meteorological Service.
