The no-confidence vote against Speaker of People’s Majlis, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed, has been scheduled for November 8.
The no-confidence motion against Maseeh was submitted to the Majlis this Wednesday morning with signatures of 51 lawmakers, including 14 lawmakers from his own party – Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
Lawmakers have now been sent a letter signed by Secretary-General of the People’s Majlis, Fathimath Niusha giving official notice of the no-confidence motion.
Majlis regulation requires lawmakers to be given notice of a no-confidence motion against the Speaker of Deputy Speaker within three working days.
Niusha said she has scheduled a Majlis sitting for November 8 to hear the no-confidence motion against Maseeh because it falls 10 days from the day of notice.
Lawmakers unsuccessfully submitted no-confidence motions against Maseeh two times in the past. The first attempt failed after a roll call vote, and the second time – PPM lawmakers who signed the motion were dismissed from the party.
