Hamdhoon appointed Commissioner of Police

Assistant Commissioner of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed has been appointed the Commissioner of Police this Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz, who had been serving as Acting Commissioner of Police has been transferred to Ministry of Environment and Energy as a Deputy Minister.

The post of Commissioner of Police had lain vacant after the dismissal of former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef during fallout from the Supreme Court order on February 1. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ahmed Saudhy had served as Acting Commissioner of Police after Areef’s dismissal, but was soon replaced by Nawaz.

The new Commissioner of Police, Hamdhoon had served as Security Commander of Operation Blue Wave – a special operation run by Maldives Police Service for the Presidential Elections.
