Jumhoory Party (JP) has opened the opportunity for it's members to become the running mate of the opposition coalition candidate for the upcoming Presidential Election, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu).
Talking at a JP press conference today, the Secretary General of the party, Ahmed Sameer, said that the opposition coalition the opportunity has been opened starting today for JP members to become the running mate of the opposition candidate.
Sameer said that the opportunity is opened until 14 July for all valid members of the party. The running mate is to be selected at a vote on Saturday.
He said that everything on the vote will be under the regulations of the party and the Elections Commission.
Jumhoory Party has made the announcement at time when some opposition supporters have raised concerned saying that JP is trying to appoint Aishath Nahula, a wife of it's founder Qasim Ibrahim, as the running mate.
A number of leading figures in JP has shown interest to become the opposition running mate.
