Brazil's Rousseff takes blows in impeachment fight

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazil's leader Dilma Rousseff saw the fight for her political life take some blows as the nation's top court rejected two appeals to halt impeachment proceedings against her.

Justices at the Supreme Court have rejected two of the appeals Friday — one lodged by Rousseff's own Workers' Party and another by the Brazilian Communist Party. One appeal remains before the court.

Vice President Michel Temer in the meantime has offered no stand against the impeachment proceedings facing Rousseff. He tells the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper only that he hopes Brazil is "peaceful" following the process.

Temer leads the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party — the strongest member of Rousseff's coalition but with members who want to see her removed from office.
