Indian police probe fake website hiring court jobs

NEW DELHI (AP) — Police in eastern India are investigating a fake website that duped hundreds of people into believing they had been hired to work for a state's top court.

Senior police official Shivdeep Lande told reporters in the Bihar state capital of Patna the fake website advertised 175 jobs.

The scam came to light after an applicant paid 7,000 rupees ($155) for a job and was given an employment letter. It was identified as fake when he showed up for work at the Patna High Court.

Lande said the police was probing to see how many people were involved in the sham.

Paying bribes to get government jobs is rampant across India.
