Ooredoo Maldives brought its Grow with Ooredoo initiative to Addu City’s Meedhoo on October 15 and 16 as part of National Farmers’ Day and World Food Day celebrations, supporting local agriculture through tree planting, the establishment of a dedicated prayer house for farmers, and the provision of practical gardening resources.
The celebrations, organised by the Addu Meedhoo Council, included the inauguration of the Addu Meedhoo Nursery and the opening of Dhanduveringe Market and the Farmers’ Prayer House. Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam attended the events as the chief guest.
In support of the Government’s commitment to planting five million trees, Ooredoo Maldives donated fruit-bearing trees to the newly established Addu Meedhoo Nursery. Ooredoo staff from the Addu region subsequently joined members of the local community in planting the trees at the nursery.
In addition to the tree-planting initiative, Ooredoo Maldives supported the construction of the Farmers’ Prayer House, which was inaugurated at the nursery during the celebrations, providing farmers with a dedicated space for prayer at the site.
The celebrations also featured Grow with Ooredoo brand ambassador Abdulla Ramzy (Zuvaan Dhanduveriyaa), a farmer from Addu known for cultivating fresh produce and promoting local agriculture. Through his farming experience and collaboration with Ooredoo Maldives, Ramzy encourages more people to take up gardening, grow their own produce, and develop a closer connection with nature.
“Farming has always been part of life in Addu, and it is inspiring to see so many people come together to support our farmers. The new nursery and prayer house will make a real difference to the farmers who work here every day. I hope this encourages more young people to start growing their own food and to see the value of agriculture for our community,” said Abdulla Ramzy, Grow with Ooredoo brand ambassador.
Grow with Ooredoo is part of Ooredoo Maldives’ broader corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at promoting sustainable livelihoods, food security, and environmental stewardship across the Maldives. Through investments in community infrastructure, greening initiatives, and support for local farmers in Addu Meedhoo, the company continues to reaffirm its commitment to contributing to the communities it serves and creating lasting social and environmental value.
