Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has completed the installation of safety railings in 220 apartments across multiple towers in Hulhumalé.
The initiative was launched following two separate incidents in which children fell from high-rise buildings in Hulhumalé Phase 2, one of which resulted in death. In response, HDC opened a window from the 5th to the 30th of last month for residents to request the installation of safety railings.
HDC reported on Sunday that 1,011 residents submitted requests for railing installations. To date, railings have been installed on 273 windows across 220 apartments, while work remains ongoing to complete installations in the remaining apartments where requests were submitted.
In a related development, Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has given residents of its flats in Hulhumalé Phase 2 until October 28 to rectify unauthorized modifications made to utility balconies. FDC warned that failure to comply with the directive will result in regulatory action.
