More than 795 candidates from various sectors in the Maldives have been successfully trained over the past five years under the Indian government-funded Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), program, according to the High Commission of India in Maldives.

According to figures released by the High Commission, 72 candidates have already enrolled in training programs during the ongoing financial year.

To cater to the growing demand from Maldivian participants, the annual ITEC slots allocated for the Maldives were increased from 200 to 300 over the past two years.

The program has seen substantial participation from key public sector bodies, civil services, and law enforcement agencies across the Maldives.

Notable participating entities include the Maldives Police Service and the Prosecutor General’s Office in the area of law enforcement and justice; the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) and Maldives Customs Service in the finance and revenue sector; and the People’s Majlis Secretariat, the Elections Commission of Maldives, and the Anti-Corruption Commission in governance, legislation, and oversight.

Additionally, major public ministries and infrastructure entities—such as the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade; the Ministry of Homeland Security, Labor and Technology; the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare; and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC)—have also actively taken part.

In particular, through the Civil Service Commission (CSC), more than 1,090 candidates from the Maldives have been trained over the past five years, with 139 candidates enrolled in the year 2026 alone.

Furthermore, through the Local Government Authority (LGA), more than 248 candidates have completed training over the past five years, with 86 participants enrolled in the ongoing year.

The ITEC program continues to play a vital role in human resource development and strengthening institutional capacity across public sector institutions in the Maldives.
