Dharumavantha Hospital performs Maldives’ first navigation-guided brain surgery

Neurosurgeons at the Dharumavantha Hospital on Tuesday successfully performed the Maldives’ first navigation-guided brain surgery.

According to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), the surgery was performed by Dharumavan’ha's Separtmnt of Neurosurgery using the Medtronic StealthStation™️ S8 - an advanced surgical navigation system developed by US-based medical technology manufacturer Medtronic.

The advanced surgical navigation system is designed to precisely locate anatomical structures during cranial, spine, ENT, and maxillofacial procedures.

The system combines hardware, software, tracking algorithms, image data merging, and specialized instruments, enabling clear visualization and surgical navigation of the cranium and every segment in the spine.

IGMH described the successful surgery as “a major milestone in bringing advanced precision neurosurgery to the Maldives.”

The introduction of navigation-guided brain surgery at Dharumavantha comes as the Male’ City Group of Hospital works to expand specialized medicalcare.
