Dr. Ahmed Riyaz has been appointed as the Chief Statistician.
Dr. Ahmed Riyaz has been appointed as the Chief Statistician of the Maldives.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Maldives Bureau of Statistics confirmed that Dr. Riyaz was appointed to the position on August 23rd.

Dr. Riyaz succeeds Aishath Hassan, whose term as Chief Statistician concluded last month.
Holding a PhD in Educational Psychology, Dr. Riyaz has previously served as a Senior Policy Executive at the National Institute of Education (NIE) and has also worked as a mathematics teacher.
The Chief Statistician is appointed by the President on the advice of the Finance Minister and serves as the head of the Maldives Bureau of Statistics for a five-year term. Under the Maldives Statistics Act, the person appointed to the position is prohibited from holding any elected office or political position.
