Dr. Riyaz appointed Chief Statistician

Dr. Ahmed Riyaz has been appointed as the Chief Statistician of the Maldives.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Maldives Bureau of Statistics confirmed that Dr. Riyaz was appointed to the position on August 23^rd.

Dr. Riyaz succeeds Aishath Hassan, whose term as Chief Statistician concluded last month.

Holding a PhD in Educational Psychology, Dr. Riyaz has previously served as a Senior Policy Executive at the National Institute of Education (NIE) and has also worked as a mathematics teacher.

The Chief Statistician is appointed by the President on the advice of the Finance Minister and serves as the head of the Maldives Bureau of Statistics for a five-year term. Under the Maldives Statistics Act, the person appointed to the position is prohibited from holding any elected office or political position.
