Additional safety measures to be implemented at FDC flats

Hamdhan Shakeel, Managing Director of Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), has announced that discussions are underway to enhance safety measures at FDC flats in Hulhumalé Phase II.

In a post on X on Wednesday night, Hamdan stated that discussions are being held to identify units in the ‘Amaan Udhares’ and ‘Amaan Dhoadhi’ towers occupied by children and persons with special needs and implement measures aimed at ensuring the overall safety and security of residents in the two towers.

Hamdhan noted the initiatives are being undertaken under the guidance of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, with a decision made to introduce additional security and safety measures across all FDC units.

According to his post, priority is being given to identifying the units housing the most vulnerable residents in order to facilitate the provision of essential safety services.

While Hamdhan confirmed that additional safety measures would be introduced at the FDC flats, he did not disclose specific details about the nature of the planned enhancements.

FDC's decision comes after the Malé City Council recently decided to instruct the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to install railings on the windows and balconies of towers in Hulhumalé.

The call for enhanced safety infrastructure follows two recent incidents involving children falling from high-rise buildings. On Tuesday, a two-year-old girl died after falling from a STELCO flat, while on Monday, a 16-year-old sustained injuries after falling from an Amaan Udhares tower.
